Home Design Ideas Mid-century modern Los Angeles Apartment
June 10th, 2016 by weblog

This Los Angeles apartment is an excellent feature for your home design ideas‘ moodboard. We found this article inspired by Architectural Digest here. This is a fantastic, exclusive and full of personality L.A. apartment, which is own by Adam Hunter, a famous American interior designer.

Home Design Ideas Mid-century modern Los Angeles Apartment Home Design Ideas Home Design Ideas: Mid-century modern Los Angeles Apartment Home Design Ideas Mid century modern Los Angeles Apartment 3

With a client roster that includes Neil Patrick Harris, skincare maven Kate Somerville, and the famous actress Christina Hendricks, the designer was made for success in his life. The importance of having an amazing place to rest and to be  with friends, the place we call home, is undebatable, so when a unit became available in Los Angeles’s iconic Shoreham Towers building, it felt like fate. “It was a total Eat, Pray, Love moment,” says the Broadway star turned decorator.

Home Design Ideas Mid-century modern Los Angeles Apartment Home Design Ideas Home Design Ideas: Mid-century modern Los Angeles Apartment Home Design Ideas Mid century modern Los Angeles Apartment 5

It is a place full of energy, but energy does not decorate homes. Untouched since the late 60’s, the apartment was not very welcoming the way the owner wanted, so, the design team and the contractor removed every interior wall in the 1,000-square-foot space to create a blank canvas.

The white-oak flooring was made and came from France and installed in a classic chevron pattern that extends to the master bath and balconies, where it is replicated in tile. The ceiling was dropped roughly five inches throughout to achieve, in Hunter’s words, a “halo” effect using acrylic lenses that lie flush with the drywall instead of recessed lighting; recessed curtains frame the panoramic views of the city below.

In the kitchen, the designer cantilevered the island so that it appears to be floating, a month-long process that involved soldering the marble into the wall.

The bedroom has a sophisticated and elegant vibe, with amazing and colorful decor details that give this space some extra personality.

The bathroom with white marble details and full of light emanates a feeling of piece and calmness.

FEATURED design tastemakers
January 20th, 2016 by weblog

Architectural Digest has selected the list of design tastemakers named to this year’s AD100 list. Some of them are daredevils, some are classicists, but all are extremely confident. From dynamic decorators recalibrating beloved traditions to enterprising architects shaking up a skyline near you. These 100 thought leaders are the best global design nowadays.

1. Axel Vervoordt

design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 1 design tastemakers Design tastemakers of 2016 by Architectural Digest design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 1

The Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt is selected into this list for his captivatingly minimalist interiors inspired with a serene sense of history and timelessness. You may know his signature style by pale-washed walls, salvaged beams, rustic slab tables, linen-slipcovered seating, antiques with rich patinas, juxtapositions of ancient sculpture and abstract paintings. There are Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Robert De Niro, Calvin Klein among his VIP Clients.

2. Bunny Williams Inc.

Blue-blooded rooms layered with deep-dish well- being and invigorating juxtapositions of old and new are the hallmark of decorating grande dame Bunny Williams. The Design Philosophy of the designer is the following: “To show people how easy it is to live with beautiful things”.

3. Deborah Berke

design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 3 design tastemakers Design tastemakers of 2016 by Architectural Digest design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 3

“Modern, exacting, sensual, authentic, place-specific, life-enriching.” This is the way the work of this designer may be characterized. The team of Deborah Berke is creating buildings and spaces that are poised between background and foreground, where the presence of architecture is in a constant balance with the forces of life.

4. Daniel Romualdez

Widely heralded yet wildly discreet, Daniel Romualdez has won accolades for his seamless, sublimely crafted environments, whose broad range of styles—minimalist here, maximalist there— share a rarefied attention to detail. The designer deeply believes: “Form follows function—a home, no matter how beautiful, does not succeed if it’s not comfortable.”

5. Darryl Carter

design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 5 design tastemakers Design tastemakers of 2016 by Architectural Digest design tastemakers of 2016 by AD 5

Nearly two decades ago Darryl Carter left a successful law career to pursue his love of design, a passion he has since exercised in spare, elemental rooms—as well as in his lighting collection for the Urban Electric Co., paints for Benjamin Moore, and his namesake Washington, D.C., shop. The key influences on the designer had Architect JØrn Utzon, cabinetmaker Thomas Day, artists Purvis Young and Igor Mitoraj.

6. David Kleinberg

In the coolly cultured, perfectly polished settings composed by David Kleinberg, tranquil color schemes are punctuated by powerful silhouettes and architectural details that establish a refined sense of rhythm. His latest project is a historic Egyptian Revival house in Sag Harbor, New York, and an oceanfront villa in Palm Beach, Florida.

An Urban Style Home in Mexico - Architectural Digest
October 13th, 2015 by weblog

What we bring you today will certainly be one of the best home design ideas of the week, by Architectural Digest. The concept of Casa Lomas Altas (or High Hills House), placed on the City of Mexico, was to mix up the urban and the green and Muro Rojo Architecture team perfectly did it.

An Urban Style Home in Mexico - Architectural Digest Architectural Digest An Urban Style Home in Mexico - Architectural Digest An Urban Style Home in Mexico by Architectural Digest casa lomas altas 17

Elizabeth Gómez Coello and Jorge Medina, from Muro Rojo Arquitectura, created spaces with big doors and lots of plants and other nature elements. From the inside, you can appreciate the nature, being in a house with such an urban interior design than could perfectly be placed in the middle of Manhattan. Let’s see this urban style Home in Mexico City.

The garage and the service area are in the ground floor and the first floor is just some stairs away. In this first floor there’s the living room, dining room, kitchen, the family room with a terrace and a garden, a studio and a playroom. And at the first floor there are 3 bedrooms and a tv room.

But the best is yet to come: at the roof, lays a gym and a spa.

In this interior design were used 3 types of rocks: Calacatta marble, Cuarcita and Pietra D’Avola, as well as Copacabana granit (used in the guest’s bathroom). This materials contrast with the european wallnut also used in the family room (installed by Fine Floors) as well as with the oak flooring.

The façade is made of concrete, exactly as each urban and modern house’s façade should be made of. In the frontage we can also find some modern shutters by Hunter Douglas.

This amazing urban style home design was possible thanks to this balance that Elizabeth Gómez Coello and Jorge Medina were able to develop, between the different textures and colors. We really love this amazing urban design, that proves how is possible to include nature everywhere.

The light design was developed by Luz y Forma. What this company has done here was to distribute irregularly many kinds of lighting, transforming the house into a cozy place.

A large part of the furniture design was made by Muro Rojo Arquitectura and mixed up with other classic furniture pieces. In the living room, the custom-made furniture contrasts with a couple Three Legged Shell Chairs bHans Wegner, a stool by Gatone Rinaldi for Poltrona Frau and two lamps by DelightFULL (Duke Floor and Coltrane Suspension).

Marino’s doesn’t need any kind of presentation. He’s the great architect that has been befitting luxury retailers as Dior, Chanel or even Louis Vuitton. Some cultural education never hurt nobody, so you really should visit Marino’s show at the Bass Museum of Art. “One Way: Peter Marino” is the name of the show that will be in Miami Beach through May 3. And there’s just a few days left.

And how did this exhibition came out? Reading the interview that the artist gave to Architectural Digest, you can figure it out. It happened when George Lindemann and several other board members went to Marino’s office in Manhattan and said, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have an exhibition that felt like your work space?” See more here. Visiting this exhibition, you will be able to find architect’s multifaceted relationship with art. The main point of this collection is exactly: “Peter Marino collects art, Peter Marino commissions art, and Peter Marino builds art.”

In an interview for Architectural Digest, Marino said: “It’s important to say that the Bass exhibition is not a retrospective. We’re showing architecture from just the past seven or eight years, and the largest part of my art collection, my Renaissance bronzes, won’t be a focus. I’ve already displayed those at L.A.’s Huntington Library, the Wallace Collection in London, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The Miami audience is, shall we say, quite pop. Most of the show is what I would call young and fun and hip.”

You can find more info about this exhibition at Bass Museum of Art’s website. Visit and enjoy!
