Space planning, interior design and art – that is the work of Peter Buchberger, which is impossible to put in words. Should it be a modern penthouse, an old villa or a rustic mountain chalet, a restaurant or a new boutique, Buchberger has already filled many empty spaces with life in an original way. Peter Buchberger seeks a “transformation” in every project: he wants to combine art and interior design and thus “provide the touch and sense of vision” by innovative combinations.

In this article, I want to share with you one of his best interior projects, a luxury chalet, where modern, minimalist forms and cold materials such as glass and metal meet furniture from knotty wood and classic luxurious fabrics such as silk, velvet and linen.

Sadly for the most of us, we don’t live in an enormous castle – we have a small space in which we have to fit everything in the world. If you live in an apartment or just in a small (but cozy) house, this article is for you.

Home Design Ideas found some tips that you can use to turn your small space into a functional, fresher and more beautiful room.

Let’s start with the beginning, of course.

1 – Look at your room – The first step is to realize what’s wrong in it. If you can’t see the floor or even a little bit of the wall… it’s time to get rid of all that “junk”. Try to move some furniture from one room to another. If your house is too cluttered, well… It’s time to sell some things.

Whether it’s in the kitchen, living room or bedroom, decide which objects you want to keep. If you start clearing everything that you don’t use or just don’t like anymore, you’ll end up with a more open and fresher place.

2 – Maximize space – If you’re buying new furniture, do all the measuring before you go shopping. Planning is vital. Avoid getting curved furniture as it usually takes up more space and diminishes your walking area.

One thing that you should do is to buy multi purposed furniture. Getting an armoire that can store your clothes and handle a TV set is the perfect thing. And why not use a desk as a dining table?

Suggestion to buy: If you like this ideas os interior design please take a look at our lamp Pastorius! It will fit any kind of room!

A piece of furniture that has more functions will make your room feel more spacious.

Remember: sometimes less is more.

3- Use light yet vibrant colors – A room with a dark tone will look heavier and fuller. Your ceiling and walls must be painted in softer tones. Leave the dark for the accessories. A nice contrast will give your place a more vibrant mood. A kid’s room is perfect to play with colors.

4- Storage is key. You have a lot of things but you don’t have the space? Well.. think outside the box. Some places in our houses can be used to keep things. If you have some empty room beneath the stairs, why not remodeled it to have some shelves?

Under the bed isn’t a space just for monsters, as your kids might think. Use it to keep some objects that you don’t use quite often.

You can even buy some decorative baskets that can be used to style your home and as storage.

5 – The bedroom – The most important thing in a bedroom is… yes, you guessed it… the bed. Scale your room by the size of it. Having a huge bed might feel comfortable when you’re sleeping, but not having much walking space is absolutely dreadful. Believe me.

If you downsize the bed and scale the objects to its size, you’ll end up with a cozier bedroom.

Having a small house isn’t so bad when you decorate it in the right way. It’s vital to decide what you want to do with a certain room. Then just have fun styling it. If you have these tips in mind you’ll have a fresher, vibrant, open and super cozy room.

Imaginative top architects Sara and Jeremy Imhoff bought a 1918 bungalow in Seattle. They decided to make it their own project and more important, their new home.

Sara and Jeremy had a nice idea: conciliate the traditional features of the bungalow with a modern, trendy, stylish approach.

It wasn’t as easy as you might think. Sara and Jeremy had to manage their day jobs, their licensure exams and the growing family.

During the 6 years that took to finish the construction, the couple and their kids had to live in the bungalow,

Keeping some attributes from the “old” house was the main guide of the remodeling. They retained most of the walls but added a little bit of style to them.

In the kitchen, Sara and Jeremy opened the space by vaulting the ceiling. That created a more bright and joyful place.

The couple design cabinets that could adapt perfectly to the proportions and some strange angles of the bungalow. They also transformed the breakfast room in their small but cozy working area-

A wall, between the kitchen and the dinning area  had to come down. The architects decided that by doing it they would create a more congestion free walking area.

The space from the kitchen to the living area was left intact. The only change was the color. They painted it white. To make  the room look sleeker they also styled the cabinet in the same tone.

The result was good and gave the room a minimalist yet modern style.

As the family got bigger, the couple had to turn the upper floor into a more kid’s  friendly area but they didn´t make the error of decorate it in a exuberant manner. They kept it very simple so that it will the easier to style when their kids have grown up.

The Imhoff’s found a way to make some cash out of their space. The lower level of the bungalow was turned into a rental studio.

As you know the outside of the house is as important as the interior. The Imhoff’s decided that wanted a unique and fun decoration..

One of the most fascinating and a little bit odd creations is their front door. What would you think of a door with 3 peepholes? Strange, right? Well, Sara and Jeremy took it to another level. Their door has….wait for it…24 peepholes. I’m not mistaken. Just check the image below.

They don’t have the biggest front yard in the world, but they still made it look good. Some chairs, a large sidewalk and a steel fence for privacy and it´s done. Cool, simple, modern and cozy.

Remodeling an old house is hard work, but if you do it right you’ll have a unique, stylish, comfortable home. Even if you’re not an architect.
