Ben Young, the creator of this inspiring glass and concrete sculptures has been in the world of art for over 15 years. Inspired by nature, these home interior decorations bring the joy of the sea, the amazingness we feel everytime the cold water touches our feet and the greatness of it all.
The sculptures, inspired by the Australian landscape, embodie the precious beaches of the country. Oceans and bodies of water, each of the pieces is hand drawn, hand cut and handcrafted. Layer to layer until the end of the product, this artist doesn’t use any computer or high-tech machinery.
The pieces start by being hand-drawn, a thought and then, the execution. In the words of the artist “I work with 2D shapes and have to figure out how to translate that into a 3D finished piece. Sometimes my starting point changes dramatically as I have to find a way to layer the glass to create certain shapes.”
To make the sculptures inspirational and som emotional, the use of glass and light create the illusion of space, movement, depth and sense of spatial being.
Ben Young uses concrete because it complements the organic shape of the glass while at the same time, it contrasts between the textures and colours of the glass slices.
