We can already feel Winter approaching with all its cold and grey colors – and all you want is to snuggle under a blanket, a cup of tea on our hands and watch loads of TV. Inspire yourself in our Winter interior design suggestions and embrace this new season with style!
Grey
Silvered branches, wisps of wood smoke and a frosty window pane… this year’s ‘“neutrals” come in the form of a palette of winter-morning greys from pale “wood-ash” to the smoky “dash of soot”.
Midnight Blues
If you prefer a richer colour scheme for Winter look out for midnight blue, indigo and ink colours.
Cozy Knits
Knitted accessories are getting bolder, with huge chunky cable-knits replacing demure weaves. And you’ll be needing a pouffe, too – the best interpretation of this trend: essentially a big knitted ball of wool for your feet.
Luxurious Comfort
There’s a definite air of indulgence about this season’s throws, rugs and cushions; plush, strokable textures seem to be as important as warmth. Ugg, maker of the snuggly boots, has launched a collection of blankets, sheepskin rugs, and floor pillows.
Tartan Touch
Touches of traditional tartan look well in both a town house and country house setting.
Fireplaces
It doesn’t take much to make a feature of the hearth, and if fuel bills continue to soar we’re going to be looking at it a lot more, specially with a very attractive fireguard.
Rattan
With all this softness, it’s a good idea to incorporate some textured materials to interest the eye. Loaf’s weathered birch rocker (pictured) has a handwoven rattan seat and backrest, and looks great by the fire.
Great Divide
Demand for screens is increasing, as they allow visual separation of open-plan rooms.
A Place to Write
You’ll need a desk that befits those seasonal scribblings; scandinavian designs are timeless in their simplicity.

The 1920’s
Thanks to Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and Downton fever, Twenties style, with its metallics and mirrored surfaces, is big this season. The key piece is, of course, a vintage drinks cabinet.
Be Fun
Touches of fun to break the winter gloom wih this colorful light fixtures.
Statement Chairs
Go timeless with a twist: a Chesterfield in antique blue, or embrace graphic geometry with Habitat’s “Sura” black rattan chairs.
Bolder Baths
There’s a new wave of attention-grabbing free-standing tubs. Vivid blues, bronze, and even – if Father Christmas is feeling frivolous – crystal-encrusted.
Candles With Character
This winter, forget the candlesticks because the main attraction is now the candle.
Handmade
Printed, knitted, woven or glazed – this year customers want a “clear sense of the hand of the maker,” says Polly Dickens, creative director of Habitat. Look out for Portuguese ceramics!
