The secret to a successful New Year’s Eve party falls in strategically planning, so you’re not scrambling at the last minute to get everything together before the ball drops,”- Ron Wendt of Ron Wendt Design, for Architectural Digest.Awesome Must-haves for Your New Year's Eve Party

A luxurious tablecloth

“I always love a good quality black velvet tablecloth at New Year’s. It’s dressy and the perfect backdrop for flowers, candles, and bubbling Champagne.”

Candles, candles, and more candles

“I am a firm believer that you can never have too many candles!” says Wendt. “Simply use multiple clear glass vases on your table with votives placed within. It will drag an immensely beautiful glow across your tabletop and create a soft lighting to set the mood. And because it’s New Year’s Eve, a little extra glamor and drama it’s nice.”

Understated floral arrangements

“I think a clean, fresh approach to flowers for New Year’s Eve works nicely—it almost mimics a clean slate for the year ahead. Especially after the heavy, saturated colors that often come with holiday arrangements in the weeks preceding this night, I like a crisp, neutral palette,” says Wendt. His recommendation: Stick with one type of flower (in multiple colors, if you wish). “Lily of the valley in crystal vases is a classic. Innocent as the New Year!”

Stylish snacks

“Set a shimmering gold-themed buffet to have light bites on,” Wendt says. “Because New Year’s isn’t celebrated until midnight anyway, it’s not necessary to have a full sit-down dinner if you’re hosting for a larger group of people (unless, of course, you want to). I find that one of my favorite things to have out for my guests is caviar. As for drinks, isn’t Champagne a must? My personal favorite is Pol Roger.”

Thoughtful party favors

Send your guests home on January 1 with something special. “A series of tiny bud vases with freshly cut flowers look beautiful as they flow down the table,” says Wendt. “At the end of the night, these smaller arrangements can also double as party favors and are a nice reminder of an evening well spent bringing in the New Year together.”
