DESIGNER OF THE YEAR PIERRE CHARPIN IS HERE
Maison et Objet’s chosen designer of the year will be showcasing his creations in hall 7 for the whole five days.
Plastic artist, scenographer and interior designer Pierre Charpin was at M&O for the whole 1st day, with all the attention drawn to the designer during an exciting conference dedicated to praise his incredible work.
During the conference “Pierre Charpin, a Design Open to Experiences”, the designer explained the importance of the sketching phase before the conception of the actual pieces. While sketching, Charpin makes sure to draw every idea, in order to “put aside all the ideas that don’t fit in”. The materials that are going to be used in his pieces are also chosen during the sketching process, as it helps the artist conceptualize and see his ideas more clearly. As Pierre Charpin said, “it is the starting point of the project”. Through his original and happy drawings he is able to soften the coldness of raw materials like marble.
Finally, when questioned about the process of working in partnerships and with clients, Charpin made it simple: “Design doesn’t exist if you work alone, it only happens through dialogue. Dialogue is everything.”
