Moooi carpets debuts six piece rug collection by Valerio Sommella. This traditional patterning meets contemporary printing technology in a six piece rug collection. Sommella’s project as started by finding a way to utilize the dutch company’s high-tech capabilities to fabricate the experience of walking on a soft, furry surface. To find the perfect combination, a range of patterns and images were experimented with, testing various parameters — printing precision, blurring, fiber length and thickness. Each final image, most of which are drawn from antiquarian sources, has a fiber density of 500,000 per square meter, and is printed with a resolution of 76dpi.
