Roman and Williams’ Eclectic Home Design Ideas

The New York-based design studio Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors was founded in 2002 by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch.

One of the most incredible things about the firm is that it is focused on people and their experiences of a space, what leads to incredible eclectic homes.

This incredible pair incredibly blends historical elements with a modern reference and strives to create projects which consistently find the tension between spontaneity and rigor, refinement and rebellion, past and future.

On a quiet, tree-lined street in Park Slope stands a sun-washed classic nineteenth century Brooklyn brownstone, formerly owned by J. Crew’s Creative Director Jenna Lyons. The owners, an English synth-pop star and the CEO of the Morbid Anatomy Museum, inspired Roman and Williams to embrace a darker and more feminine aesthetic.

In their first ground-up residential project, Roman and Williams designed a seven-story condominium building in the heart of NoLiTa, one of New York’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Roman and Williams chose to reject modern construction trends in favor of a more traditional approach.
