The term mid-century modern was coined during the mid-1950’s and, in the 80’s, author Cara Greenberg made sure to reaffirm it, making it an officially recognized design movement. Luckily, this movement survived until now and everyone is going crazy about it. And with good reason, because with its simple lines and retro style, the mid-century design is always a guarantee that your house will look extremely fancy.
So today we made a selection of a few inspiring and fundamental mid-century modern items that for sure will make your home design stand out.
Lighting
Lighting design is a big deal on what concerns mid-century design. And these retro light fixtures are more than just that: they are eye-catching pieces that bring out the best in a room. In this case, they are the Etta Round and the Turner Floor by DelightFULL’s Heritage Collection, and they look absolutely stunning.

Vibrant Colors
Bold colors are very characteristic of the mid-century style because they’re a recollection of the classic color schemes used during the 1950’s and 1960’s that featured mustard and bright yellow, avocado green, tangerine and various shades of blue. They always make sure to look super cool in whichever room you choose to use them.

Patterned Rugs
Something that is also very distinctive in this style is the amazing patterns used in decoration to contrast with the beautiful colors used. In this case, we selected two examples by Essential Home: the Polanski Rug and the Allen Rug, adding a beautiful vintage touch to your ambiance.

Teak
This one’s a must. Teak wood just screams mid-century modern design. Its robust, yet simple look make up the perfect combination to adorn any modern living area or bedroom with a 50’s nostalgic ambiance.

Armchairs
What pretty much any mid-century modern design has in common is that one really beautiful armchair. They always look cool, placed in the perfect spot in the living room and ready to be used to read that Hemingway book that’s been stored for way too long. For that, we selected two smashing armchairs by Essential Home: the Carver Armchair and the Bogarde Armchair.
