Design tastemakers of 2016 by Architectural Digest

Architectural Digest has selected the list of design tastemakers named to this year’s AD100 list. Some of them are daredevils, some are classicists, but all are extremely confident. From dynamic decorators recalibrating beloved traditions to enterprising architects shaking up a skyline near you. These 100 thought leaders are the best global design nowadays.

1. Axel Vervoordt

The Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt is selected into this list for his captivatingly minimalist interiors inspired with a serene sense of history and timelessness. You may know his signature style by pale-washed walls, salvaged beams, rustic slab tables, linen-slipcovered seating, antiques with rich patinas, juxtapositions of ancient sculpture and abstract paintings. There are Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Robert De Niro, Calvin Klein among his VIP Clients.

2. Bunny Williams Inc.

Blue-blooded rooms layered with deep-dish well- being and invigorating juxtapositions of old and new are the hallmark of decorating grande dame Bunny Williams. The Design Philosophy of the designer is the following: “To show people how easy it is to live with beautiful things”.

3. Deborah Berke

“Modern, exacting, sensual, authentic, place-specific, life-enriching.” This is the way the work of this designer may be characterized. The team of Deborah Berke is creating buildings and spaces that are poised between background and foreground, where the presence of architecture is in a constant balance with the forces of life.

4. Daniel Romualdez

Widely heralded yet wildly discreet, Daniel Romualdez has won accolades for his seamless, sublimely crafted environments, whose broad range of styles—minimalist here, maximalist there— share a rarefied attention to detail. The designer deeply believes: “Form follows function—a home, no matter how beautiful, does not succeed if it’s not comfortable.”

5. Darryl Carter

Nearly two decades ago Darryl Carter left a successful law career to pursue his love of design, a passion he has since exercised in spare, elemental rooms—as well as in his lighting collection for the Urban Electric Co., paints for Benjamin Moore, and his namesake Washington, D.C., shop. The key influences on the designer had Architect JØrn Utzon, cabinetmaker Thomas Day, artists Purvis Young and Igor Mitoraj.

6. David Kleinberg

In the coolly cultured, perfectly polished settings composed by David Kleinberg, tranquil color schemes are punctuated by powerful silhouettes and architectural details that establish a refined sense of rhythm. His latest project is a historic Egyptian Revival house in Sag Harbor, New York, and an oceanfront villa in Palm Beach, Florida.
