A great Modern home design by Chakib Richani

Get ready to get inspired with this beautiful modern home design in London. Chakib Richani, a Lebanon-based architect who spends at least a week in London each month, decided to find a place in the city, he knew he wanted to keep things simple yet stylish. And there you have! Let’s take a look inside this great home.

Because the 19th-century building is Grade II–listed, renovating it required a host of permits and approvals. So, Chakib had to adapt his original designs—including installing hidden fire curtains between the living room and kitchen—to keep the open plan he wanted while still satisfying the fire regulators.

For the home interiors, Richani was influenced by the Lanesborough, a hotel he frequently stayed in during his trips to the city. “The rooms were dark and clad in mahogany,” he says. “I wanted to re-create that warm feeling in a more modern and sleek way.” The entire space is lined in walnut and travertine mosaic, creating a cohesive look.

The architect as also created almost every square foot in the apartment. “Behind some of the wood paneling are cabinets, which conceal the washing machine and dryer, the guest toilet, a wine cooler—even the fridge is fully integrated,” tells Chakib. The entire entire apartment is automated and can be controlled remotely by iPhone.

The finished flat, which took more than a year to complete because of the lengthy approvals process, captures the cocoon-like atmosphere. “It feels like a jewel box,” he says. “I have all my books, my music, my malts, my cigars—it’s all there. Everything is hidden, but you have everything you need.”

The master bath’s shower as a view of the property’s back garden. Richani devised the marble-and-walnut vanity and the mirror, which features an integrated LED light.
